HANDHELD
RECORDERS AND PC BASED RECORDERS
The Dictation Source
offers several ways for our clients
to prepare and send their voice recordings
to us. The most popular methods are
the use of a handheld recording instrument
made by Olympus, Phillips or Sony
or a PC based recorder such as the
Phillips speech Mike®
The use of these
professional grade devices allows
for flexibility, portability, reliability,
and ease of use. The staff of the
Dictation Source will gladly assist
our clients in making a decision as
to which type of device is appropriate
for their practice.
HOT
TIP
When a physician
or other healthcare provider takes
the time to dictate a patient report
the last thing anyone of us in the
“dictation/transcription”
chain wants is to have tell them they
have to re-dictate that report due
to some technical error. Because of
this completely unwanted result, The
Dictation Source strongly recommends
that the persons that dictate uses
a high quality dictation recorder
that is designed specifically and
solely for dictation.
There are many recorders on the market
today with very attractive initial
prices (less than $100). These recorders
are usually advertised as multi-use
machines and provide software that
will allow the user to record music,
store pictures, and do all sorts of
other cool things. Unfortunately,
these other functions can often interfere
with the main purpose of the recorder
and cause recording and filing errors.
So, if you do not
want to be caught in the position
of having to re-dictate or, worse
yet, telling your boss that he/she
need to re-dictate, please make your
initial purchase of a dictation recorder
a sound one. We have offered some
recommendations on this page. There
are many more good choices, feel free
to call our office to inquire about
alternatives.
